1. IUGG Statutes and By-Laws, and Union Resolutions are posted on the IUGG Web site The revised IUGG Statutes and By-Laws, and the Resolutions adopted at the 23rd IUGG General Assembly are now posted on the IUGG web page. They are available in both English and French. 2. National Reports are posted on the IUGG Web site National Reports from the following countries are now posted on the IUGG Web page (http://www.IUGG.org): Argentina, Canada, China, Croatia, Finland, India, Indonesia, Japan, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, and Turkey. Many of these countries also provided printed copies for distribution in Sapporo. In addition, excellent printed reports were prepared by France and Hungary. IUGG appreciates the time and energy required to assemble these reports that showcase the IUGG-related research being done within the respective countries, and provide points of contact for collaborations. Please view these reports and either print out copies as needed or request a printed copy directly from the individual National Committees. All IUGG National Committees are encouraged to prepare Internet sites now that provide such appropriate information, and to maintain them throughout the new quadrennium. The addresses of these sites will be provided in the IUGG Yearbook and will be posted on the IUGG web page. 3. Awards and Honors The European Geophysical Society awarded medals to a number of individuals at their recent annual meeting in Nice, France. The following persons active in IUGG, received awards. Prof. Véronique Dehant, Head of the Time, Earth Rotation, and Space Geodesy section at the Royal Observatory of Belgium and President of IAG Commission 3: Earth Rotation and Geodynamics, received the Vening Meinesz Medal in recognition of "outstanding contributions to the study of nutations of the Earth's axis of rotation and their implications for the structure of the Earth's core." Prof. Barbara Romanowicz, Chair of the Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley, and member of the IASPEI Executive Committee, received the Beno Gutenberg Medal for "outstanding contributions to wide-ranging topics of theoretical seismology and to the development of broadband seismic networks on land and in the oceans." 4. Nominations requested for COSPAR award The Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) is inviting nominations for the following two awards, to be presented at the 35th COSPAR Scientific Assembly to be held in Paris, France, 18-25 July 2004. Previous award winners are listed at http://www.cosparhq.org/Awards/awards.htm The first is the Massey Award, 'to recognize outstanding contributions to the development of space research, interpreted in the widest sense, in which a leadership role is of particular importance.' The second is the Vikram Sarabhai award, 'for outstanding contributions to space research in developing countries.' In this case, the work should have been done primarily between 1998-2003. In order to meet the COSPAR deadline, nominations are due by 17 October to Eigil Friis-Christensen, IUGG Liaison to COSPAR, with a copy to the IUGG Secretariat. 5.
