1. IUGG General Assembly News The Scientific Programme is now posted on the General Assembly web site. The website can be accessed from IUGG home page, or directly via www.jamstec.go.jp/jamstec-e/iugg/index.php If you cannot find the Scientific Session Schedule, reload the website (click the re-load button while pressing the <shift> key.) The deadline to register for the IUGG field trips has been extended

with payment, please access the following webpage to complete your The names of the delegates from the IUGG Member Adhering Bodies to the IUGG Council Meetings are posted on the IUGG web page (www.IUGG.org). The Council Agenda Book that was distributed on 31 March is also posted. At this time, attendance at the IUGG Council meetings is restricted to Council Delegates, the IUGG Executive Committee and the IUGG Finance Committee. 2. Additional Nominations received for the IUGG Finance Committee According to the By-laws new nominations can be made to the Nominations Committee at least three months before the General Assembly, i.e. in this case by March 30, 2003. Two additional nominations were received for the Finance Committee - Kiyoshi Suyehiro (Japan) and Patrick Pinet (France). Both fulfilled the requirements stated in the By-laws and were therefore added to the list. The augmented list is given below and constitutes the final ballot from the Nominations Committee for voting by the Council Members on July 9 in Sapporo. Candidates for Office

In Memoriam - Michael Gadsden Michael Gadsden (U.K.), Secretary-General of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) from 1983-1995, died on April 10, 2003, at his home in Perth, Scotland. A leader in optical aeronomy, he published an IAGA manual and instruction book "Observing Noctilucent Clouds" in 1995 with P.Parviainen, and convened an international symposium on mesospheric clouds in summer of 2002. 4. IUGG to be represented at the SCOPE Executive meeting The ICSU Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE) will take place in Granada, Spain, from 10-13 June 2003. Dr. N.J. Peters, past-president of the IAHS International Commission on Water Quality, will observe the meeting as the IUGG representative. 5. ICSU/TWAS/UNESCO Visiting Scientist Programme The Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), in co-operation
with the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the United Nations Educational,
Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) offers a programme whereby host
institutions in Least Developed Countries are supported to invite persons who
have attained international recognition in their fields of science to stay for
a minimum of one month to deliver lectures and seminars, supervise students,
conduct research, and discuss future collaborative partnerships. Applications
are due by 1 October 2003. For more information, visit the TWAS web site 6. IUGG-related meetings occurring during May - July 2003 A calendar of meetings of interest to IUGG disciplines (especially those organized by IUGG Associations) is posted on the IUGG Web Site [ www.IUGG.org]. Specific information about these meetings can be found there. Individual Associations also list more meetings on their web sites appropriate to their disciplines.
