1. IUGG General Assembly Web Site

The Local Organizing Committee of the IUGG 2003 General Assembly (June 30- July 11, 2003) in Sapporo, Japan, has announced the opening of the Web site for the meeting. http://www.jamstec.go.jp/jamstec-e/iugg.

2. Thank you for responses to the IUGG Member Country Questionnaires

As of the 30th of June, the IUGG Bureau had received replies from the following National Committees. We sincerely appreciate these responses, and invite comments at any time for improvement of IUGG services and structure. Algeria, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland, Taipei, and the U.S.A.


3. IUGG Executives Receive EGS Honors

The following persons received recognition from the European Geophysical Society at their 26th General Assembly in Nice, France, in March.

Susanna Zerbini, President of IAG's Section V (Geodynamics) Commission XIV: Crustal Deformation, received a Badge Award for "her exceptional services as president of the geodesy section and her eminent contribution in promoting geodesy within the society."

Dan Rosbjerg, President-elect of the IAHS International Commission on Water Resources Systems (ICWRS), received the Henry Darcy Medal for "his outstanding contributions to the analysis of extreme hydrological processes and their engineering implications."

Atsuhiro Nishida, the Chairman of the IUGG 2003 General Assembly Programme Committee, received the Hannes Alfvén Medal for "his outstanding contributions to the study of plasma processes in the Earth's magnetosphere and as an international space science coordinator." In addition to the EGS honor, Professor Nishida recently received a Prize from the Japan Academy for "Studies on the Earth's Magnetospheric Structure and Plasma Convection." His award was one of only nine presented across a broad spectrum of disciplines.


4. IUGG-related meetings occurring during July-September, 2001
