Union Awards

Based on the presentation of the Honor and Recognition Committee, IUGG established in 2013 the following Union awards: (i) the Gold Medal, (ii) the Fellowship, and (iii) the Early Career Scientist Award. These awards will honor eminent scientists as well as outstanding early-career scientists for their contribution to the field of Earth and space sciences and to international research cooperation in geodesy and geophysics.

Gold Medal

The Gold Medal is the highest honor of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics, established in 2013 to award Earth and space scientists for outstanding contributions to geodesy and geophysics and for unselfish international cooperation in research. The Medal is presented at the IUGG General Assembly following the award’s announcement. The Awardee is bestowed the Medal, a Medal certificate and an Honorary Membership (Fellowship) of IUGG. Fellowship (Honorary Membership)

The Fellowship (Honorary Membership) of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics is a tribute to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to international cooperation in geodesy or geophysics and attained eminence in the field of Earth and space sciences. Honorary Members are bestowed a certificate of IUGG Fellowship, which is presented at the IUGG General Assembly following the announcement of the awards. Details on the award can be found here

Early Career Scientist Award

This Award honors early career scientists for their outstanding research in Earth and space sciences and for their international research cooperation. IUGG Early Career Scientist Awards are presented at the IUGG General Assembly following the announcement of the awards. The awardees are bestowed a certificate. IUGG supports travel of the awardees to attend the General Assembly. The awardees will be invited to give a talk at the General Assembly. Details on the award can be found here
